Membership in the Examination Committee of a Master’s Thesis at the College of Pharmacy Professor Dr. Zainab Yaseen, a faculty member at the Biotechnology Research Center, Al-Nahrain University, participated as a member of the examination committee for the Master’s thesis of researcher Muntathar Salim Rasool at the College of Pharmacy, University of Baghdad. The thesis was titled: “Study and Purification of Compounds in the Cultivated Mazuna Plant in Iraq for Treating Leishmania Parasite.” The study aimed to investigate the phytochemical properties of the active components found in the cultivated Amazon plant (Acanthaceae) in Iraq for treating the leishmania parasite. The researcher successfully purified seven compounds from the plant, and the non-polar compounds showed a strong inhibitory effect on the growth of both cutaneous and visceral leishmania parasites

The Biotechnology Research Center Holds Its First Board Meeting The Director General of the Biotechnology Research Center at Al-Nahrain University held the first board meeting. The meeting aimed to approve the center’s scientific plan for 2025, in addition to the research plan and available laboratory services, as well as details regarding workshops, seminars, and scientific training courses. The meeting was attended by Dr. Amer Naji Ahmed, Director General of the Center for Environmental, Water, and Renewable Energy Research and Technology; Dr. Sanaa Mohammed Hussein, Head of the Measles Unit at the Central Health Laboratory; Assistant Professor Dr. Zaid Akram Thabit, Head of the Quality Assurance Unit at the University Presidency; and the heads of scientific departments at the center. Biotechnology Research Center Explores Activation of a Cooperation Mechanism with the College of Engineering The Director General of the Center, Professor Dr. Mohammed Mahmoud Farhan, received the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Jumaa Salman Jiyad, during his visit to the center. The visit aimed to strengthen academic and research collaboration between the two sides, contributing to the development of joint research projects, utilizing modern technologies in biological and engineering fields, offering training opportunities for students, and promoting innovation in areas such as genetic engineering, nanotechnology, and artificial intelligence in medical applications. This will enhance the ability to address future challenges in modern sciences. The visit aimed to tour the exhibition halls and acquire books from the Book Fair, benefiting from the discount offered to the Center’s staff.               The Biotechnology Research Center at Al-Nahrain University conducted its scientific course titled “Pathological Analyses”, organized by a group of faculty members from the Environmental Biotechnology Department. The course aimed to provide a detailed explanation of various analyses of blood and urine, along with an interpretation of each component’s results. The course included both theoretical and practical aspects, where participants learned blood sampling techniques and urine analysis.
