The Center’s Participation in Two International Conferences Assistant Professor Ghaidaa Hussein, a faculty member from the Department of Environment at the Center for Biotechnology Research, Al-Nahrain University, participated in the Sixth International Conference of the College of Pharmacy at Al-Mustansiriyah University, as well as the International Conference at Knowledge University in Erbil. The aim of both conferences was to explore modern applications in scientific research and how to implement them effectively for the benefit of society. This participation is not the first of its kind in conferences dedicated to advancing scientific research for optimal utilization of its services.

Successful Completion of the ELISA Training Course A group of researchers and technicians from the Department of Medical Biotechnology at the Biotechnology Research Center, Al-Nahrain University, successfully completed the ELISA training course, which lasted for five consecutive days. The course covered various topics, including the principles, techniques, and applications of ELISA. This training provided an excellent opportunity to enhance understanding and practical application of this important technique, which plays a crucial role in disease diagnosis and supports numerous studies in medical and biological sciences. The course also allowed researchers and technicians to exchange expertise and skills in the field of ELISA, as it is one of the most widely used methods for disease diagnosis and studying immune responses.

Visit of Postgraduate Students from the University of Baghdad to the Center A delegation of PhD students from the College of Education for Pure Sciences, Ibn Al-Haytham / University of Baghdad, visited the Biotechnology Research Center at Al-Nahrain University to learn about the latest developments in the field of biotechnology. The students toured the center’s laboratories, where they were introduced to the latest equipment and technologies used in research. Researchers at the center gave presentations on their current studies, particularly in the Tissue Culture Laboratory and the Animal House. “This visit aims to strengthen the relationship between the university and the center and provide students with opportunities to explore the practical applications of biotechnology.”

A Faculty Member from the Research Center Chairs a Master’s Thesis Defense Professor Dr. Zainab Yassin, a faculty member from the Department of Botany at the Biotechnology Research Center / Al-Nahrain University, chaired the defense committee for a master’s thesis at the College of Pharmacy / University of Baghdad. The thesis was presented by the pharmaceutical researcher Haider Ahmed Jawad and was titled: “Phytochemical Investigation of Certain Chemical Components in the Leaves of Gazania rigens (Family: Asteraceae) Cultivated in Iraq.” The study aimed to extract, purify, and isolate secondary metabolites with significant biological activity and to examine their effects on two cancer cell lines in vitro. The study confirmed that this plant, cultivated in Iraq, contains highly important compounds, such as phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and plant sterols, all of which significantly inhibited the growth of cancer cells. The researcher was awarded a grade of “Excellent” in recognition of the substantial scientific contribution of his thesis, particularly in cancer cell treatment, with a focus on colon and breast cancer.

Meeting on the Presentation of Achievements of the Scientific Departments at the Center for Biotechnology Research The Director General of the Center for Biotechnology Research at Al-Nahrain University, Professor Dr. Muhammad Mahmoud Farhan, held a meeting with all staff members to present the achievements of the center’s scientific departments. The heads of the scientific departments presented reports on their respective departments’ research and technical achievements. Additionally, reports were provided on joint research projects between the departments, universities, and other research centers. The attendees discussed prospects for research and technical collaboration between the center and other academic and research institutions, as well as the challenges facing researchers and strategies to overcome them. This meeting strengthens research collaboration among the center’s scientific departments and provides opportunities for researchers to exchange expertise and competencies.
