Dr. Huda Salman Al-Ajeeli took part as a discussant in a Master’s Thesis defense at the University of Baghdad/ Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

Dr. Huda Salman Al-Ajeeli is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical and Molecular Biotechnology at the Biotechnology Research Center from Al-Nahrain University. Dr. Huda Salman Al-Ajeeli took part as a discussant in a Master’s Thesis defense at the University of Baghdad/ Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. The master’s thesis was entitled as: “Investigation of the Antioxidant and Antibacterial Activities In Vitro and Cytotoxicity In Vivo of Castor Leaves Extract” in the institute’s discussion hall. The master’s thesis student was Zeina Yaqoub Mahmoud. The defense session of the thesis was held in the Hall of Discussion in the Institute. The objectives of this study were to Identify the bioactive compounds found in rheumatism leaf, evaluate the anti-oxidative and anti-bacterial activities of rheumatism crude extract in-vitro and investigate the effect of rheumatism leaf extract administration on the biochemical enzymes of the liver and kidney, as well as to monitor how the serum levels of testosterone and luteinizing hormone (LH) changed in mice when orally administered with the extract. Throughout the research, all the animals in every set were bled at the end of the experiment, hethen their liver and kidney enzymes and some fertility hormones examined. The liver slices that were initially kept in formalin were analyzed afterwards. Three quantitatively randomizations of the treatments were made (CRD). The outcome of the trial showed that, statistically, there was a significant difference in testosterone and luteinizing hormone levels when the treated group was compared to the control. On the other hand, the microscopic examination of liver and kidneys showed mild to moderate hepatic necrosis, and mild tubular necrosis, respectively, especially at doses of 150 and 200 mg per kg of body weight of the extract. The research inferred that, being the major component of the organic extract, the root of the plant possesses active materials making it a possible therapeutic material. The discussion concluded with (an excellent) grade for the researcher.
