Teaching Membership at the Center in a Master’s Thesis Defense Committee Asst. Prof. Dr. Ashwaq Shanan Abd, Head of the Department of Plant Biotechnology at the Biotechnology Research Center / Al-Nahrain University, participated as a member of the examination committee for the Master’s thesis entitled “Cultivation of the Alga Chlorococcum humicola in Alternative Culture Media”, submitted by student Inaam Shaker Yaqoub Al-Fayyadh at the College of Education for Pure Sciences (Ibn Al-Haytham) / University of Baghdad. The thesis aimed to explore the possibility of cultivating the alga using alternative culture media derived from plant-based sources, and to assess the impact of these media on biomass and growth rates. This research is considered an important scientific step toward developing sustainable and eco-friendly solutions in the field of algae production, which is gaining increasing importance in bio-industrial and environmental sectors. The defense concluded with the student being awarded a Master’s degree with a grade of Very Good, in recognition of her scientific efforts and the promising results she presented, which contribute to the advancement of algal cultivation techniques using sustainable alternatives

Biotechnology Research Center Organizes an Awareness Seminar on Tuberculosis Under the supervision of the Director General of the Center, Professor Dr. Mohammed Mahmood Farhan, the Center for Biotechnology Research at Al-Nahrain University organized an awareness seminar titled “New Diagnostic Tuberculosis Techniques.” The seminar aimed to present informative sessions on the causes, symptoms, prevention methods, and treatment of tuberculosis. It covered four main topics: The first topic addressed the nature of the disease, how it spreads, and ways to prevent it. The second focused on the epidemiology of tuberculosis in Iraq. The third highlighted community partnerships in the National Tuberculosis Control Program. The final topic discussed the medications used in treating tuberculosis. The seminar concluded with several key recommendations, the most important of which were: avoiding enclosed spaces, ensuring proper ventilation, following healthy practices when sneezing or coughing, adhering strictly to the prescribed treatment plan, and avoiding gatherings to prevent the spread of the disease

Lecture on Bio-Fractionation for Medical Department Students The Biotechnology Research Center at Al-Nahrain University received a group of professors and fourth-stage students from the Medical Department, College of Biotechnology, at the same university. The visit aimed to provide students with theoretical explanations in addition to conducting practical experiments related to the topic of bio-fractionation. Professor Dr. Zainab Yaseen Mohammed delivered the first lecture, offering a detailed explanation of both the theoretical and practical aspects of purifying biologically active compounds. Assistant Professor Ayat Adnan also gave a lecture focusing on the purification of proteins from various plant and animal sources, covering all stages of the purification process. The students were introduced to the equipment available in the center’s laboratories, which enable the execution of the purification steps. The delegation of professors and students from the Medical Department expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the valuable information they received
