The Director General of the Biotechnology Research Center, Professor Dr. Muhammad Mahmoud Farhan, received a delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology headed by the Director General of the Department of Environment, Water and Renewable Energies, Dr. Amer Naji. A meeting was held in the center’s seminar and conference hall to discuss a joint cooperation mechanism with the Ministry of Science and Technology, represented by the Department of Environment, Water and Renewable Energy. It was attended by a group of directors of research centers and heads of departments in the department. The meeting aimed to deliberate and pave the way for joint cooperation in the fields of research, training, technology and development, and to support frameworks of mutual understanding and comprehensive practical and educational mechanisms to activate the role of exchanging experiences and various visits, and to provide mutual services and a joint research plan for what serves both parties and our dear country.

On Sunday, 30th June 2024, the General Director of Biotechnology Research Center at Al-Nahrain University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mahmood Farhan, participated in the Ph.D. defense committee for the student Sabrin Hadi Fadhil in the Department of Biological Sciences (College of Science) at the University of Baghdad. The aim of this dissertation was investigating single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of cytokine genes IL-18 and IL-33, their gene expression levels and serum concentration associated with these cytokines as well as correlation between them and miscarriages due to toxoplasmosis (cat disease) that occurs among Iraqi women. The study established a likelihood for some relationship to exist between patient sample and control sample. This was done under scientific collaboration between Al-Nahrain University and University of Baghdad.The dissertation was entitled: “The Relationship between Genetic Polymorphism of (IL-18, IL-33) and Toxoplasmosis in a Sample of Miscarriage Iraqi Women.” The dissertation was accepted with distinction ( excellent rating) after the student defended hers.

The ceremony acknowledged exceptional deans, faculty members and researchers. The prize for the faculty of high H-Index in Scopus databases was granted to Professor Dr. Mohammed Mahmoud Farhan, Director General of the Center, Prof Dr. Hazem Ismail Abdul Bari, Chair of Environmental Biotechnology Department received the award for “Best Research Published in Field of Pure Scholarship’. In the same field, and under way of heading professor Dr. Zainab Yaseen Mohammed from Plant Biotechnology Department for obtaining title Professor as well. The event took place in the Grand Al Salam Hall, at Al Nahrain University with university officials and faculty members in attendance including the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs the Assistant President, for Administrative Affairs deans of faculties, heads of research centers, esteemed professors and researchers.
